Ergonomic factors affecting comprehension levels of traffic signs: A critical review

Comprehension of traffic signs is important to road safety. This review aims study the extent which users in different countries comprehend and identify ergonomic principles sign design can affect levels comprehension. We conducted an extensive literature dealing with comprehension public directed at any user. searched Journal articles indexed by Scopus, ScienceDirect, Web Science. The search identified 35 that assessed 931 26 countries, including six studies tested new versus existing signs. Various methods have been implemented measure signs’ assess design’s conformity principles. Results indicate high variability signs, e.g., such as “Road works” “No U-turn” are highly comprehended (comprehension over 90 %), while other like “termination road” rarely users.
